Based on the acclaimed novel by former Children's Laureate Michael Morpurgo, the National Theatre's epic production of War Horse is a haunting story of courage and endurance, performed by actors working alongside life sized equine puppets.
As World War One breaks out and consumes England, teenage farm boy Albert's treasured horse Joey is sold to the British Army as a cavalry mount and sent to battle in France. Caught up in enemy fire, fate takes him on an extraordinary journey and he ends up pulling ambulance carts for the Germans before finding himself alone in no man's land.
Albert cannot forget Joey and, still not old enough to enlist, he lies about his age and embarks on a treacherous mission to the trenches to find him and bring him home to the fields of Devon.
