Lyricist Tim Rice makes his long-awaited return to the West End with the world premiere of his new musical, From Here to Eternity. Directed by Tamara Harvey and adapted from James Jones's 1951 debut novel, the production will star Darius Campbell, Robert Lonsdale, Ryan Sampson, Siubhan Harrison and Rebecca Thornhill.
Set in 1941 at the Schofield Barracks in Hawaii during the Second World War, From Here to Eternity is a gripping tale of illicit love unfolding amidst the swirl of events surrounding the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour. Loosely based on Jones's own military experiences in Oahu, the story follows several members of G Company including troubled former bugler Private Prewitt who falls for escort girl Lorene and First Sergeant Milt Warden, who begins a dangerous affair with his commanding officer's wife. The novel spawned the Oscar-winning 1953 film starring Burt Lancaster, Montgomery Clift, Deborah Kerr, Donna Reed and Frank Sinatra and a subsequent TV mini-series.
Featuring an original score with music by Stuart Brayson and lyrics by Tim Rice, this epic musical adaption marks Rice's first entirely new show since Aida.
