Inspired by Lewis Carroll’s classic tale of Alice in Wonderland, Rufus Norris directs a new musical by Moira Buffini and former Blur frontman Damon Albarn. This bold and ambitious reimagining is a coming-of-age adventure that explores the blurred boundaries between our online and offline lives.
Inner-city teenager Aly lives on a drab housing estate with a mother she resents and an absent father. Bullied at school and unhappy at home, Aly escapes into the virtual world of wonder.land where she has an avatar in the shape of a brave, blonde princess and can be exactly who she wants to be. As she goes on a quest that leads to self-discovery, real life and wonder.land begin to collide in ever more curious and dangerous ways.
Combining live theatre and dazzling digital technology, wonder.land is brought to life by an extraordinary creative team. With surreal sets, stunning costumes, brilliantly vivid projections and an infectious and exuberant score, this is a contemporary musical for the online generation.
