Show Details
Following a sell out run at the St James Theatre earlier this year, Jamie Lloyd's buoyant production of satirical musical comedy Urinetown transfers to the West End's beautifully refurbished Apollo Theatre for a limited season. Urinetown is a dark and resonating tale of greed, rampant exploitation, corruption, love, and revolution in a time when water is worth its weight in gold.

Written by Mark Hollmann and Greg Kotis, Urinetown is set in a bleak dystopian future where a terrible twenty-year drought has crippled water supplies and the privilege to pee carries a preposterous price tag. Water is so scarce that the government enforces a ban on all private toilets in an effort to control water consumption. All citizens must use public, pay-per-use facilities and anyone caught trying to evade the fee risks being sent to Urinetown, a mysterious place where many have been sent but no one ever returns.

At Public Amenity #9, the filthiest urinal in town, young rebel Bobby Strong hears rumours of impending fee hikes and begins a pee-for-free rebellion, leading an uprising to fight back against the tyrannical regime and demanding the right to make the public amenities free for all to use.
