Legendary musical theatre stalwart Michael Crawford returns to the West End stage to star in the premiere of new British musical, The Go-Between which features a new score by Richard Taylor.
Based on L. P. Hartle’s 1953 novel and adapted by children’s dramatist David Wood, The Go-Between is the story of elderly Leo Colston, a man who is unwittingly forced to confront the painful memories of his past when he uncovers a long forgotten diary and repressed memories of the searingly hot summer of 1900 come flooding back.....
Memories of holidays spent at Brandham Hall in Norfolk, the lavish country home of his school friend Marcus Maudsley. Young Leo finds himself acting as the secret go-between for the beautiful upper class Marian Maudsley and tenant farmer Ted Burgess who are embroiled in a forbidden love affair. The innocent and naive Leo gets bound up in the adult atmosphere of deceit, risk and manipulation and the ensuing events of that summer and the devastating consequences of love denied will shape his life forever.
A deeply moving and unflinchingly honest coming of age tale, The Go-Between masterfully presents all the anguish of lost love and lost innocence in what is sure to be one of the most passionate and affecting productions you will see this year.
