Based on the Oscar-winning screenplay of the smash-hit 1998 film starring Joseph Fiennes, Gwyneth Paltrow and Judi Dench, the long-awaited world premiere stage adaptation of Shakespeare in Love bursts into life in London's West End this summer featuring a company of 28 actors and musicians.
Plagued by debt and struggling with writer's block while working on his latest comedy, promising young playwright Will Shakespeare finds his muse in the form of beautiful noblewoman Viola de Lesseps, daughter of a wealthy merchant who loves the theatre and would like nothing more than to take to the stage. Their forbidden love soon draws everyone, including Queen Elizabeth I herself, into the drama and inspires Will to write the greatest love story of all time, Romeo and Juliet.
Reworked for the stage by Lee Hall and directed by Declan Donnellan, this sweeping romantic comedy will transport you back to Shakespeare's London, teeming with vibrant colours, characters, music and life.
