Celebrating its twentieth anniversary, French playwright Yasmina Reza’s internationally acclaimed award winning play Art returns to London for a limited season at the Old Vic this December starring Tim Key, Paul Ritter and Rufus Sewell.
Translated by Christopher Hampton and directed by Matthew Warchus, this dark comedy is a perceptive study of prejudice, tolerance and the nature of friendship.
Three long-time friends, Serge, Marc, and Yvan find their previously solid 15 year friendship on shaky ground when Serge buys a ridiculously expensive piece of modern art which appears to be a large blank white canvas. Marc is aghast and their relationship suffers considerable strain as a result of their differing opinions about what constitutes art. Caught in the middle, their common friend Yvan attempts, unsuccessfully, to placate and mollify both sides with hilarious consequences.
