Following a critically acclaimed season last year, US punk rock band Green Day's award-winning musical American Idiot returns to The Arts Theatre for a strictly limited run starring X factor semi-finalist Amelia Lilly and singer-songwriter Newton Faulkner.

Based on Green Day's multi-platinum 2004 concept album, American Idiot is the story of three childhood friends, now disillusioned and disaffected young men each searching for meaning in a post 9/11 world. While Will stays behind to work out his relationship with his pregnant girlfriend, Johnny and Tunny are desperate to escape the stifling suburban lifestyle and parental restrictions and head for the freedom and excitement of the city. Forced into adulthood thanks to the obstacles of fatherhood, drug abuse and war, the album’s rage and love themes drive the narrative to a heartbreaking conclusion.

This explosive musical has thrilled Green Day fans and introduced a new generation of theatregoers to their powerful and moving musical style. Featuring hits from their albums American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown, the score includes Boulevard of Broken Dreams, 21 Guns, Wake Me Up When September Ends, Whatsername, Holiday and the classic title track American Idiot. Also included is an unreleased love song, When It’s Time.
